Who doesn’t love code names? The Secret Service agrees that code names rock.
John McCain may have been a self styled Maverick, but Barack Obama’s Secret Service code name is Renegade.
Wow! But how do they decide these code names in the first place? Do presidential veto powers extend to code names? What if the Secret Service tells a president-elect that his/her new code name is something silly like Puffball or Scumbag?
I started Fallout 3, although I didn’t get into the second one and I never played the first. So far, this iteration has been much better. After my fun with being evil in Mass Effect, I decided to go evil my first time through FO3 as well. I figured being evil mostly meant mouthing off to my dad Aslan and not helping people out, but it actually involved being a violent jerk too.
So your buddy Amata seems to really stick with you through thick and thin. I was pretty rude to her and made fun of her weight, but that didn’t seem to phase her too much. Even when I clubbed her unconcious with a baseball bat we were still cool. However, when I accidentally shot her dad’s head off (I thought he was a guard…), she grimaced and refused to talk to me anymore. Interestingly enough, the Talk command comes up when you stare at the dismembered head, but you cannot talk to it because it is now hostile (and laying on the floor, detached from the body). Oh well, I’ll make it up to Amata on my next time through.
So far I have been mostly sneaking and stealing, although I pumped Intelligence first. I don’t really know what abilities are best yet, so I have been taking general ones. I have been trying to put more into Speech because usually the better run games will give you quests and experience for these skills, but I haven’t seen any really moving rewards just yet.
Ever since moving to the new building, it’s been a constant stream of challenges. I had an awesome start to my date today:
- Tried a new bus route this morning. Bus was 15 minutes late.
- I must have forgotten to recharge my Zune… No music or videos while I wait.
- Got in to find that someone broke the connection for my computer’s ethernet.
- Had to scramble to take the experimental shuttle for a meeting where the old building was.
- Got to building 15 minutes early, so I waited downstairs.
- Person I was meeting with arrives 150 minutes late.
- Shuttle back is 15 minutes late and sits at the spot for another 15 minutes.
- Come back to find ethernet wiring is still not fixed.
The best part is that after all that time I spent sitting around waiting, I come back to find that the fire alarms are being tested all morning long. Every 5 minutes, the sirens pulse once. So somehow, the day has actually gotten worse! If only it was Friday…
I voted for the first time today. It was a fairly painless experience, and we didn’t really have “booths” to vote in. The voting machines looked like they could fold up and be wheeled out, and I’m not sure the interface was that great. I only voted for the presidential election, since I didn’t know any of the other candidates and I didn’t know anything about the sewer law they were trying to get votes on. In previous years I was a resident in clearcut states, but this year it’s pretty close in PA.
In completely unrelated news, last week in my Financial Accounting class the professor let class out 20 minutes early because he said he really wasn’t feeling well. His wife has been in the hospital for a while, so I just assumed he was upset about her and literally worried sick. However, today we got an email that he had gone to the hospital after class and was diagnosed with a TIA (”mini stroke”). He even got a pacemaker. Still, he’s coming in to teach today, which is admirable (although I still don’t like his class).
