So Much Awesome

I saw this article

Meet Ringo Tsar - a dog who can pack a knock-out punch with his paws.

Well that is pretty much everything I want in an article: a housepet, martial arts, and a multi-faceted pun (Ringo is a Russian terrier). Also, the picture of Ringo hitting the pads with his owner is pretty hilarious.

“He can jump and kick to command with his two front feet at a punch bag or kick pad.

“It seems much better to teach a guard dog to do this than to bite.”

Toby has been training himself to jump-kick, but his practice has been limited to kicking items off our tall dresser.

Giants Win

Bunky and I watched the Super Bowl last night. Neither of us are huge football fans, but I felt an obligation to cheer for the Giants, since they’re my hometown team. We tuned in just before the halftime show, to see Tom Petty give a pretty good (but very conservative) performance. Of course the songs all turned out to be pretty apt.

It wasn’t too bad for most of third quarter, since a low scoring game favored the Giants, and Tom Brady was just getting killed by the Giants’ defensive line. I don’t know how anyone can blame Brady for the loss, especially after he engineered that effortless drive down the field, late in the fourth. I thought the game was pretty much done, and those third downs were almost too much for Bunky to handle. However, it really was great watching (live and in HD) Eli’s legendary scramble to hit David Tyree for that miracle pass. It’s still amazing to me that Manning was not sacked that play, and that was an incredible catch. I felt pretty bad for Brady who stepped it up in crunch time (after being plastered in the turf for most of the game), only to be let down by his defense and given about 30 seconds to try and come up with a touchdown.

Sydney watched most of the third quarter with me, but the pressure got to be too much for him and he left. Toby took his spot, and enjoyed the rest of the exciting game. This was Toby’s first Super Bowl.

Help Me

I don’t know who did it, but one of the cats managed to open 29 windows of Help and Support on my computer while I was away (F1 perhaps?). Even more troubling was that the responsible cat tried to configure Windows Outlook too (I just use webmail). However, Outlook proved to be too difficult to use, so no urgent help emails were sent out. I swear I don’t mistreat the cats, your honor!

Perhaps it is time to invest in some new hardware and software

Catnip’s Out of the Bag

Sydney never had much interest in catnip and it didn’t look like Toby would be much different. Bunky had bought Toby one of those simple little burlap sacks filled with catnip, and Toby played with it regularly, but not in any way that was different from his normal toys. As the sack was getting a little gross looking, we recently replaced the sack with a new sack. Just a few days later, however, Bunky was astonished to find that the sack had been shredded open and the catnip was all over the carpet. I guess that must have been an especially good crop!
