Ever since Ender recommended Starship Operators, I’ve felt like I should… you know, listen to him once in a while. I know, I know, it goes against the grain of my being, but lately his recommendations for Guild Wars have perked my interest. There’s a small chance of reuniting the group from Final Fantasy XI, and this game seems to have a much lower time requirement, with little grind. I don’t mind if the gameplay is not super deep, and so I think I’m going to pick it up. I definitely miss the FFXI grouping, although WoW is nice and fun (I caught a catfish that can be wielded in the offhand, and my hunter is now running around with this awesome hairy flightless bird). With no monthly fee, and an emphasis on skill over grinding, Guild Wars sounds like a nice summer diversion.
I’m even given some thought to tanking. Over the years, I’ve traditionally played a healer or all-around type character, but lately I’ve been intrigued by tanking. I liked playing healer in groups (I was backup healer in FFXI, and main healer in EQII), but lately in WoW I’ve found that I really enjoy playing melee classes in solo play. There’s only 6 classes in Guild Wars at the moment, and Warrior seems to be the only tanking option. As for subjob… choice, choices…
I’ve been playing Final Fantasy XI since it first came out about a year ago, and have finally decided that it’s feeling a little old. There were good points, and I loved the community and partying with my friends, but towards the end it just took too much time to do anything and the game turned into too much of a grind. Still, it wouldn’t be right to send Chiriri off without one last set of pics:
- OMG don’t do it Chiriri!!!
- Got it at Seers
- I must avenge my master…
- orz
- Chiriri FINALLY got a corsage!
- Chiriri could use her magical powers to blend in…
- … but why bother when she is naturally stealthy!
Thanks for all the great memories, Chiriri!
To anyone who plays Final Fantasy XI, and specifically those who level monk, I came across a topic on GameFAQs asking posters to come up with the most annoying Boost macro possible. The one below (courtesy of “G Prime 4 Ever”) won hands down. A monstrous 5-hotkey sequence utilizing engrish, ascii art, annoying calls, misspelled words, poor grammar, shouts, emotes, and copious amounts of cheese, this macro is an impressive template for all aspiring monks. Without further ado:

Here’s my character Chiriri (a Tarutaru) from the MMORPG Final Fantasy XI. Since I have spent a rather large amount of time on Chiriri, I figured it was only fair that I do a fanart piece as well. This was just a small lineart I did to practice emulating real media on Photoshop CS. I tried for a watercolor look, and while I can’t say it’s completely successful, the blending of colors looks much smoother and vibrant than my usual cell shading style. It was a pretty fun experiment, although I wasn’t able to get the en-fire effects on the sword to look right. References to Naruto, Kaleido Star, and Bottle Fairies are little easter eggs in this one. Background was a cheap text thing, meant to look like those Japanese designs that are filled with engrish text =).
