Going For Two

You better believe I’m going to try to defend my title. The latest Yahoo Fantasy Basketball season is upon us!

The draft is on October 19th. Hopefully my team, Herapetta Overdose, will get some good picks this year. The other name I was considering was Steps On Jordan.

Triumph!

Woo hoo, third year’s the charm! After two futile attempts, my fantasy NBA team has finally gone all the way and taken the RBJ league championship! I know it’s not really that much to brag about, but I still wanted to win. Ender’s MoolaFraggers came through in the consolation game for 3rd place, so we both did pretty well. My match was close all week, but I pulled away over the weekend for a handy 6-3 victory.

Fantasy NBA Update

Woo, the regular season is over in FNBA, and my HaroDragoons finished 140-66-4 (winning percentage of .676), good enough for first place. Lebron was the man all season long, and the team finished 7.5 games ahead of the second place team. Also important, Ender’s MoolaFraggers team held on for the 5th place spot (top 6 go to playoffs), in spite of incredible parity in the 3-7 seeds. My team has a bye this week before playing the winner of the (4) Panty Dropper Patrol vs. (5) MoolaFraggers matchup, so here’s to hoping for an all-Sea Slugs matchup in the second round.

And for those of you who care, here’s some thoughts on the regular FNBA season, based on draft picks, and important pickups:

Now That Nash Is Out…

So far in the Fantasy NBA season, my team HaroDragoons has been cruising. One reason why (i.e. the non-Lebron reason) is the spectacular play of Boris Diaw of the Phoenix Suns. Thanks for waiving him, Ender =D. Anyway, while Boris’ stats are certainly good, what makes him really amazing is his position versatility. Just recently, he finally added center eligibility. This makes him eligible to play SG, SF, PF, C. So with Nash out, why not play him a little at the point? He can’t shoot and he is a good passer… I think it could work.

I never owned Magic Johnson, but this has to be a diet version of what it was like.

Tinker Time

My Fantasy NBA team went 7-3 to tie for third place, but of course I couldn’t leave well enough alone. Stromile Swift got off to a slow start due to low minutes, so I decided to dump him and snap up Luke Ridnour, who was (to my surprise) on the waiver wire. For the most part, Luke is a very average PG, but his extra playing time in Seattle this season has him averaging 8 assists over the last 5 games. I then traded Luke Ridnour and Kenyon Martin away, in order to get Josh Howard and Tyson Chandler. I’m definitely pleased with the trade, although I didn’t want to give up Luke. The trade gives me a slight bump up in overall value (up to 0.48 from 0.32), but now Al Harrington is really expendable. His two big strengths are FG% and rebounding, and I am completely set on those. Because he is good, I am reluctant to just dump him for a waiver wire pickup, but I can’t see getting a decent backup PG for him. After all, FG% and rebounds are pretty easy to come by, and he only plays SF.

So far, here are the current needs for my team: FT% and 3’s. These two are major weaknesses on my team, although assists and turnovers also need to be shored up. Clearly, I need an unselfish passer who is good for a few 3’s a game. I think I’ll have to pick up Mike James, since he’s the next closest thing. Blah!

Baby Steps

October was a super lazy month, and while the DC trip and my subsequent illness took me out half the month, I was just unmotivated the rest of the time. I started back on drawing again about a week or two ago, and yesterday I finally got back to the gym. I was planning to shoot a few jumpers then go jog since I wanted to ease back into the routine; unfortunately as soon as I set foot in the gym, I got roped into a 5-on-5 full court pickup game. These opportunities are rare, so against my better judgement I took it. I was super rusty and out of shape, and I think I finished the game 0-3, 2 boards, 2 A, 2 TO (you know, in the beginning of the game when you have no idea who is on your team). After just 30 minutes of suicide sprints, I was sucking wind and my calves were feeling tight, so I called it a night after the first game ended. Pretty pathetic, but I was pleased to get back to the gym. Plus, I didn’t die, which is always a good thing.

Speaking of basketball, the fantasy NBA season has started. My players did decently last night, but assists are going to be harder to come by than even I anticipated. I had dumped Chris Paul for Jason Terry as a backup PG, but in a double overtime game that Dallas ended up winning 111-108, Terry managed only 3 assists in 37 minutes. Darrell Armstrong managed almost twice as many (5) in less than half the time (14 minutes). WTF! Things get even worse when you realize my starting PG (Kirk Hinrich) is really a SG…

Meanwhile, it looks like the Sports Guy is in a celebrity draft. Should be interesting!
