It wasn’t much of a surprise, but Donnie Walsh is the new GM of the NYK.
Now I wonder how long Thomas will be coach for. I think they should give him a cushy job as a scout, since he seems to be decent at evaluating talent. I just don’t think he is a good negotiator or strategic planner. NY should have a good pick this year in the draft, and quite a few players on the team could be moved for inferior players with better contracts. I think tanking it with a hard-working team would be the way to go for the next few years.
Also, the LB James rumors are absurd. He will never leave Ohio as long as they can compete. The whole thing is a pipe dream, and while you gotta make that run if there is a chance, I am pretty sure he will not leave the Cavs in 2010. You don’t ever get these guys until they are near the end, like Garnett.
One of the nice things about Cornell making the big dance is that you get to read about them (even if it isn’t in the best of lights).
As for the fourth astounding thing, we happened to be sitting near the Cornell section for the Cornell-Stanford blowout and saw fans wearing Cornell jerseys and red paint. You have to love March Madness if only for the thought of someone buying a Cornell jersey five years ago and saying, “Some day, we’ll make the NCAAs and I’ll get to wear this thing during a 40-point blowout.”
But all of those astounding things paled in comparison to the Cornell cheerleaders, a group that apparently was assembled hastily within 48 hours of the tournament. During the first half, they tried to do one of those pseudo-pyramids in which two groups of three girls lifted two other girls in the air, only one of the girls lost her balance and nearly tumbled face-first to her death before the other girls somehow caught her. Unfortunately, they had to finish their routines for the rest of the game, leading to a terrifying moment where they attempted the pseudo-pyramid again in the second half, only the girl who almost fell the first time had the same petrified look on her face as the babysitter in the last 30 minutes of the “When a Stranger Calls” remake. I don’t think I’ve ever been so scared for someone in my entire life. Somehow they pulled off the pseudo-pyramid, although it was marred a little when the poor girl lost control of her bowels on the three girls holding her up. Just kidding. Again, you have to love March Madness.
Haha, never give up!
Bunky and I watched the Super Bowl last night. Neither of us are huge football fans, but I felt an obligation to cheer for the Giants, since they’re my hometown team. We tuned in just before the halftime show, to see Tom Petty give a pretty good (but very conservative) performance. Of course the songs all turned out to be pretty apt.
It wasn’t too bad for most of third quarter, since a low scoring game favored the Giants, and Tom Brady was just getting killed by the Giants’ defensive line. I don’t know how anyone can blame Brady for the loss, especially after he engineered that effortless drive down the field, late in the fourth. I thought the game was pretty much done, and those third downs were almost too much for Bunky to handle. However, it really was great watching (live and in HD) Eli’s legendary scramble to hit David Tyree for that miracle pass. It’s still amazing to me that Manning was not sacked that play, and that was an incredible catch. I felt pretty bad for Brady who stepped it up in crunch time (after being plastered in the turf for most of the game), only to be let down by his defense and given about 30 seconds to try and come up with a touchdown.
Sydney watched most of the third quarter with me, but the pressure got to be too much for him and he left. Toby took his spot, and enjoyed the rest of the exciting game. This was Toby’s first Super Bowl.
It’s that time again, and my team L.A. Axe has been created. Time to get my crown back. I wonder if I will be able to get Lebron James for a third year in a row, lol.
