Nourishment

Evangeline A.K. McDowell

I was originally going to draw Rena Rune from Sousei no Aquarion, but then I decided I didn’t like her that much, and so I switched to a goth-loli-vampire I do like, i.e. Evangeline Athanasia Katerina McDowell from Mahou Sensei Negima. Hardest parts of the lineart were the prodigious amounts of hair that Evangeline possesses, and also the one sharp pinky nail. I’m not too good with profile shots, and so there are probably a few mistakes from that as well. The very dubious connection to the “nourishment” theme hinges on the fact that Evangeline is in fact a vampire, and that there is a play on words in her invitation. I know, it’s feeble, but hey at least the picture’s colored!

Hopefully the next pic will not reuse the same boring black background with white text…

Ambition

Uchiha Sasuke

I decided to leave the makeup alone and refer back to the fact that the Uchiha fan crest looks like another rather famous symbol. This was a pretty simple picture, and so coloring didn’t take too long once I finally got started. I used the extra time to make this horror. Pikachu, Chidori Attack!!!

Blame it on Kungfucius.

Alone

Natsuki Kuga

Well, I explained the backstory behind this Natsuki Kuga piece last time, so there’s no need for a repeat. This was a pretty simple small piece, but it was good to get some color and dark lineart going again, after a string of drawings stuck in the sketching stage. One of the most interesting parts of coloring fanart is finding out what color a character’s eyes are. I never know until I have to steal colors from screenshots. Usual blending of shades was used for coloring, although it was definitely not as polished as I would have liked. I really want some of that mayo now, though!

However, mayo on ramen is still gross x__X.

Chiriri

Chiriri

Here’s my character Chiriri (a Tarutaru) from the MMORPG Final Fantasy XI. Since I have spent a rather large amount of time on Chiriri, I figured it was only fair that I do a fanart piece as well. This was just a small lineart I did to practice emulating real media on Photoshop CS. I tried for a watercolor look, and while I can’t say it’s completely successful, the blending of colors looks much smoother and vibrant than my usual cell shading style. It was a pretty fun experiment, although I wasn’t able to get the en-fire effects on the sword to look right. References to Naruto, Kaleido Star, and Bottle Fairies are little easter eggs in this one. Background was a cheap text thing, meant to look like those Japanese designs that are filled with engrish text =).

Azumanga Cosplay’ers!

Azumanga Cosplay

Ahahaha, I finally managed to finish a picture for 2004! I had seriously planned on drawing more this year, but I was waaaaay too ambitious in the early part of the year, and this picture took forever to finish. This is the first picture I have done with more than 2 people interacting in the same picture, and it was pretty difficult in spite of the simple poses. I still consider myself a bit of a beginner, but this was very good practice. It’s supposedly the cast of Azumanga Daioh cosplaying as all sorts of other characters from Guilty Gear, Hello Kitty, Card Captor Sakura, Naruto, Read or Die, and Slayers. Can you figure out who’s supposed to be who?

Asakura Yoh and Anna Kyoyama

Asakura Yoh and Anna Kyoyama

I had been pretty motivated to do some more Shaman King art, but then summer hit, and I accidentally packed away my tablet. Tons of other obstacles and hijinks ensued, and this piece ended up sitting on the backburner for about 4 months. Not too much to say about this piece, and towards the end I just wanted it to be finished. I used those lame sample pics included with Windows XP as backgrounds, though I made them into blurry stained glass.
