What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas

About a week or so ago, my brother showed me Skype, and it was quite the revelation.  It worked fantastically with the camera built in to my netbook’s lid, and the quality was much higher than in Gmail Talk with video.  Unfortunately, the second time I tried to use Skype, turning on the camera resulted in repeated blue screens with an unhelpful message about BUGCODE USB DEVICE ERROR.

Fortunately, I found this thread which correctly advised disabling the card-reader’s driver to get the computer working again.  From the looks of things, it’s once again Realtek’s fault.  I don’t know if this is always true, but in my experience Realtek drivers have had terrible compatibility with Windows Vista (Logitech has been pretty crappy, too).  Vista is not new anymore.  I find these driver issues to be inexcusable.  While I don’t use my card reader that often (I only really used it in Las Vegas) since I have a card reader at my desktop, it still sucks that there isn’t a driver fix out yet, even after a month.

On a related note, Realtek shows two optional driver updates in Windows Updates and the updates have been there for months.  I can never install the updates, and I just get some error code that supposedly indicate that I have a newer version already.  Ugh, damn you Realtek!

Yeah I have the same issue where there’ll be driver updates on Windows Update that never can install! What’s the point of suggesting them when you can’t use them? :P

  2. Yeah, Skype is awesome! I use it to talk to my parents in Asia.
