Closet Space
Over the weekend, Bunky and I did some serious cleaning around the house. We cleaned out the good-sized coat closet by moving most of the coats to the main closet and then donating about a million pairs of shoes that Bunky never wears. We actually managed to return some shoes that she had bought over a year ago and never worn (for store credit), which was pretty amazing.
With the almost-empty coat closet prepped and ready, we then installed a wire-frame closet organizer with 4 shelves. The closet is now our new pantry! Previously we had been using one large cabinet block for the pantry, and that sucked. Everything was thrown in there and impossible to find. Now we can reach everything (and keep track of inventory levels for JIT food purchasing), and we had enough space to move many of the small appliances into the pantry when not in use (e.g. rice cooker, crockpot, blender). This in turn let us rearrange the cabinet space for extra efficiency. I’m still getting used to where everything is, but so far the experiment has been a great success.

You’ve inspired me to clean out my bedroom closet, which is so full and scary that I’m afraid to go into it. But I’ll start today! One step at a time…
