Hawaii Day 04
It’s Wedding Day! Yesterday was a busy, exhausting, but wonderful day. We had to wake up at 5:30 AM, as Bunky had an early appointment with her hair/makeup person. This process took a really long time, and we were really scrambling to make it to Kapalua Bay in time. I didn’t even get breakfast! I tried out my Dermablend makeup for the first time. That stuff is crazy effective! I was able to completely cover the area of my pseudo-scar. It felt like using Photoshop, except in real life.
Bunky was shy about walking through the lobby in her wedding gown, and everyone stared at her like she was a celebrity. It was a really different experience! It was really tough fitting Bunky and her poofy dress in the car (she had to sit in the back). It was a little cloudy but also partly sunny. We managed to get another fake spot for parking, thank goodness. We only had to wait a few minutes before the officiant showed up. The photographer was the last to show up because he had to park like half a mile away or something.
The officiant was very helpful in directing what we would do during the ceremony. It was very unique, considering he had on what I suppose was traditional Hawaiian garb, and he blew a conch shell as well. Although the photos don’t show it, I think we actually got married on a knoll next to a restaurant… Still, reciting the vows was really emotional; we both kept it together though and finished the ceremony.
After that it was photoshoot time. This was considerably harder than I expected. First we had to hike over bushes and onto some large rocks. It was kinda treacherous, but Bunky was a real trooper. I think those photos will be really dramatic, and it was nuts watching the photographer climbing up the less stable rock ledges to get the shots he wanted. He wouldn’t need the pulley system to climb the fake rock wall at R.E.I. at all!
When we finished up on the rocks, the sun came out more and so we moved to the beach for some beach shots. It was hard to pose and walk in the sand, but the water and sand were so beautiful. Bunky and I had some dip shots as well as some ambitious and unsuccessful throw-Bunky-in-the-air poses. We then moved to the shade for some portrait shots and to the entrance tunnel for a few pictures as well. This was really awkward because we blocked off the chokepoint for all the beach goers and they all walked by and said congratulations. One European lady spoke to us at length in broken English to explain she wanted a picture with us. I guess she travels a lot and likes to be in interesting photos. Our photographer agreed and she then told us she would remember us in her travels…
We were so exhausted by this point and we moved on to the grass next to the beach. Bunky had chosen this location specifically because of the grass. The photographer then finished up with some shots of all our props (rings, the gorgeous bouquet, our wedding announcement, etc.) and we were done. Right as we were signing the final paperwork, it started to pour. It was perfect timing (and the rain stopped before we had to walk to the car). Bunky and I trudged home and went back to the hotel. I ate my muffin from this morning and then we both fell asleep.
Unfortunately the day was not done yet. We had a 4:30 appointment with a photographer at the hotel for pictures on the resort premise (which is so picturesque). We changed into our more casual outfits and met him. This photographer was much more hands on (look this way, pose this way, turn head to the left, etc.), but he also took a long time to take each picture. I liked that he was telling me exactly what to do, but it took him so long to take each picture that the poses felt really unnatural. This ended coming through in the pictures. However we did get some really great shots. We went through the Swan Court and then moved to the beach. The sun was out and we had to face it in our pictures. This really sucked, especially with the photographer’s slow speed. I felt like my eyeballs were burning out of my head. We managed to get through it, and I was just happy to be done with my modeling career.
Finally we went to dinner at the Plantation House. The restaurant is on a stunning golf course with some really expensive-looking houses nearby. We were early and got a great window seat from which we watched the sun set. However, the food wasn’t quite as amazing as I expected. I had a pompano fish served in the Taste of Maui style (pistachio-crusted, on Maui onions, local tomatoes, upcountry spinach, with couscous & olive oil). The fish was great, as was the tomato-spinach side, but the overall seasoning was too mild and the couscous needed extra flavor. Bunky had the Free Range Chicken Breast “Piccata Style” garlic & herb orzo pasta, white wine caper sauce. The chicken was ok, but again the dish was a bit bland. The worst part, however, was that there were a billion capers in the pasta and they packed a huge kick. Bunky had been in between the filet mignon and the chicken but she cheaped out in the end.
Fortunately, dessert was awesome. Bunky had the Da Kine Brownie and I had the Key Lime Pie. It was fantastic. We also solved a big mystery. When we had arrived at the restaurant, the hostess mentioned, “I heard a rumor that you two just got married.” We were really surprised that she would know, and wondered if maybe our planner had told them. The waitress also mentioned our newlywed status. Finally, when we finished our dessert, we got a card that said congratulations. It turns out the partner that Bunky does work for had called ahead and picked up our tab! So that’s how they knew all about us. It was a great end to a wonderful day.

That Dermablend looks pretty impressive, but what you really need is some good old-fashioned
starscreamMederma scarcream! =3AWWWW!!!! Not to ruin your day with another reference, but I find it sort of coincidental that the officiant guy had a conch shell, and in one of my favorite Spongebob episodes (I was young at the time…
), Spongebob asks the Magic Conch Shell, “Will I ever get married?” (its around the 3:30 mark) =3
You were trying to do one of those dramatic high-fives-in-the-air poses, weren’t you?
(too bad I can’t find the picture
)
Congrats again man! I’m glad everything went well! Heres to a new happy family! =3

Congratulations!!! It sounded like a wonderful ceremony! Of course, I must give the obligatory web cliche of “Pics or it didn’t happen!!!” =)
