The weather has warmed up enough to have the windows open at work, and the breeze is simply delightful. While the annoyance of confused bees flying in is fairly constant, I am usually able to usher them out without too much problem.
The absolutely best part of the warm weather, however, is the frat house next to the office. Every day around 4 PM they start blasting very loud and very unedited rap songs (while playing drinking games). It is shocking to hear some of the lyrics while you are trying to work up a budget or put together reports. While it is rather distracting, it is kinda amusing and it often brings a smile to my face (when I am not under a deadline crunch).
It’s even better when someone comes into my office while the music is blasting =O. 80% of the time, the music is soooooo offensive, and yet everyone has to keep a straight face and pretend nothing is wrong. I love this.
Well… 23-59 but it can’t get any worse. I speak of the Knickerbotchers, but hopefully IT will be out. I like what I have seen so far from Donnie Walsh, but I know that things will still be bad before they start getting better. NYK should have a good pick this draft, but I don’t know if it will be a great pick. Still, I wouldn’t trade it unless it is as an incentive to get a bad contract off the books. If I was in charge, I’d be willing to trade almost all of the players as long as a shorter contract is sent back in return (henceforth denoted as “DfaBC” for “Dumped for a Better Contract”). I would try to draft a point guard, so that NY can just let Marbury finish his last year and then not re-sign him.

Starting in about a week or so, new episodes of beloved shows will finally be coming back. I never realized how much this would affect me before the strike, but I am just so sick of HGTV and Food Network reruns at this point. I only ever watch maybe 1-1.5 hours a day of TV with Bunky (she picks most of the shows), but looking through the scheduled recordings menu on the DVR has been so depressing this quarter. I even started watching Eli Stone the last few weeks, which was kinda like Ally McBeal. Fortunately, it was slightly less corny towards the finale.
I’m excited to finally see new House episodes, and Gray’s Anatomy will be welcomed back as well. I still half-heartedly watch Desperate Housewives, but I have a hard time relating to that show. Lost will also be back to frustrate me further. Ugh, if I could just read a spoiler for that damned show I would!
Ah CAPTCHA… The double-edged sword that stops spammers but discourages commenters has been increasingly vulnerable to bots. However, finally a real solution has appeared:
So he came up with KittenAuth, a test that requires the user to identify which three out of nine pictures contain kittens. The “3 in 9″ grid leaves the poor spambot with only a one in 84 chance of randomly picking the right answer.
Since you can vary the grid size and also the questions, you can easily pump up the difficulty. If you regularly rotated your kitten pictures, it would be harder for a non-AI bot to figure out which pictures are kittens. Imagine being the person in charge of browsing for cute kitten pictures all day, in order to fight spammers…
