Brawling
I picked up SSB Brawl this weekend. First off, I only played Melee for a few days on the GC, so it is safe to say that I am terrible at Brawl. The new controls took a while to get used to as well. I’m still trying to decide which character to use, since I know that I should probably get some practice with one person before I start branching off. Bunky and I played some team matches against the CPU and I was able to get her started with simple A attacks and the occasional smash. Currently, she favors Fox.
I noticed there were several balance changes this time around. Samus’ charged B is not nearly as good anymore, and Peach’s down A has also been toned down. I’m considering Pit and everyone’s favorite yellow electric rat right now, although both do have the disadvantage of being very light. Pit seems to have outstanding recovery, with otherwise balanced moves (and spammable arrows). Pikachu has some underrated A moves, and down A is excellent. The lightning abilities aren’t superb, but being short enough to avoid projectiles is amusing. Also, holding the beam sword in the mouth is fantastic. I thought Ike was pretty good as well, but his recovery is horrible and I am already bad at recovery as it is.
I’ve unlocked several characters, and now I can spam FALCON PAAAWWWWWNCH to my heart’s content.

I really really hate it that pushing up makes you jump. Also, Marth is pretty goood, although his final smash has a pretty terrible range.

Bunky must have some intuition about her character choice - I think Fox was the top pick for hardcore tourney duels. Marth was either second or third, I forget.

GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!! I HATE PIT AND TEH SPAMABLE ARROWSSSS!!! AND ZELDA AND HER OVERPOWEREDNESS!!!
But yea, Pikachu is mad G and I’m training him to be my 6th main (in order: Link, R.O.B., Wario, Luigi, Bowser) It does bring fond memories cause he used to be my main when the first Smash Bros came out T_T. Fox is pretty cool too, especially his forward A (in the air) attack (the multiple kick thing). I sort of hate how theres 3 almost-clone Star Fox characters, but they do have big differences that make them unique. Maybe I’m just mad they didn’t include Slippy Toad, one of the finest Traps in Nintendo History (next to Birdo)
@ Velius: I think I know what you mean. My problem is doing the up A move (on the floor) but instead performing a short hop and the A move in the air. Of course, that problem was taken care of long time ago in the Melee era, for now I’M A MASTER SMASHER!!!

Totali is quite the character, and an awesome smasher. In fact, hes very close to my level. But of course, I KNOW HIS WEAKNESS! And no, its not Kriptonite (He can be my Superman any day, MMMMMMMM HHHHHMMMMM!!!!!) I’ll give you some advice on how to beat the elite smashers: SHIELD GRABBING!!! Basically, when your on the ground and someone is about to hit you, shield and the instant their attack is done, press the A button (while shielding with L/R) to perform the grab…. yea its a pretty basic move, but it annoys the crap out of people when you do it constantly, they’ll be attacking like mad dogs, which makes them lose concentration. Of course, don’t be the type of smasher that stays in one place and waits for them to attack (I HATE HATE HATE those type of smashers, and apparently, lvl 9 CPUs are like that…especially Pit!). Speaking of CPUs, if you’ve chosen your main, make sure to face lvl 9 CPUs of yourself, because its best to know your own weaknesses and to see what combo the CPU does.
