Nothing makes my morning like seeing an urgent company-wide email:
THE PITTSBURGH WATER AUTHORITY HAS ASKED THAT YOU PLEASE DO NOT DRINK THE BUILDING WATER FROM SINKS OR FOUNTAINS UNTILL FURTHER NOTICE!
Guess I’ll have to drink toilet water today then.
I had my first week of classes yesterday and Monday, and going till 9:00 PM after work is pretty rough. I don’t feel like doing anything by the time I get home and finish eating. It doesn’t seem like the classwork or exams will be too difficult, but there will be a fair amount of reading and homework. I’m having a tough time getting back into the mode of doing work on my own!
I’ve also decided to stop my membership at the Kenpo Karate school I go to. It was a good school, but I won’t be taking advantage of it as much while I am taking these MBA classes. Membership was pretty expensive, and I didn’t want to pay for something I would not use very often. Also, I found that since the dojo is fairly new, many of the classes are geared towards either white belts or the very high-ranked students. The last few months, I have not really been learning anything new.
It’ll be tough trying to motivate myself to go exercise in the mini-gym beneath my apartment, but that will be more flexible and cost-effective. Again, like homework it is just a matter of self-motivation =/.
Although I didn’t get to experience PAX with the rest of the =VGI= clan, they were nice enough to call and gloat about how awesome and memorable the experience was. It’s been weird having no one online, but last week was a very busy one for me, and this weekend had some highlights as well.
UFC 74
This one was sooooooooo good. It was completely worth the PPV price, and every single bout was exciting. While I was disappointed that Grove got upset by Cote, there were a number of really awesome moments:
- Crane takes Huerta’s back, so Huerta uses the large screens in the arena to see where Crane’s head is. Huerta launches a barrage of backwards elbows to Crane’s head, and later laughs about it.
- George St. Pierre comes back with a vengeance. He looked so intense (for once) coming into the stadium, and he just absolutely dominated Koscheck. The best part is that GSP out-wrestled Koscheck the whole time, and showed excellent takedown defense. So much for the “much improved standup” of Koscheck, as all he ever threw was a few left jabs followed by that looping overhand right.
- Couture defeated Gonzaga. I was worried when Couture took that devastating head kick in the third, but he shook it off like it was nothing. While you can argue that Gonzaga got messed up by the accidental headbutt that broke his nose, Couture completely dominated Gonzaga in the clinch. The way Randy was moving and tying up Gonzaga, I think Couture would have won even without the headbutt (which was caused by Couture smashing Gonzaga to the ground anyway).
Spa Treatment
Poor Bunky booked a spa treatment for the first time in months, and then had to cancel because her work (on a Saturday…) would have made her late by a mere 20 minutes or so. However, it was the last appointment for the day, so she couldn’t just come in late. Bunky didn’t want to piss off the spa people, so she had me go in her place, lol. I’d never been to spa before, but it was really nice having my face massaged, and exfoliated. There was this device that blew steam into my face while I lay there with pleasant soothing music, and pads on my closed eyes. It was a very relaxing experience, albeit a bit expensive.
About 2.5 blocks from my stop, the bus I was riding to work stopped. As I looked up, I saw the University of Pittsburgh marching band crossing the street, followed by the cheerleaders (and the Pitt Panther, lol), followed by a bunch of students. Ok, no big deal I thought. 10 minutes later, the steady stream of freshman in navy blue t-shirts had not abated… They had blocked off the busiest street in Oakland in the morning so that the entire freaking class of 2011 could cross from the dorms over to wherever their orientation program was being held.
Eventually I got out of the bus and just walked. I felt like a salmon going against the current, but when I looked back, the bus I was in still had not moved.
