Homey Don’t Play That

Sometimes a man has to protect his territory, and stand up for what is right. Even when the sun shines brightly and the fair wind sweeps away the cold of winter, we must be ever vigilant against those who would take what is ours.

Indeed, this weekend, I had yet another incident where someone was parked in my parking spot in front of the condo. This has happened quite a few times, as my spot is extremely close to the entrance into the building. The spots are private, and each resident has an option to pay for a spot (they are not cheap). Also, the parking lot is gated, and now that the condo has been up for a while, the gates are typically down. This means that the bastard was either a resident or a guest of a resident. A quick look into the beige Mercedes Benz led me to believe that the perpetrator was an old woman.

Of course one option is to simply ignore the problem and park in a different spot, but all the parking spots are numbered and reserved, and so I would have been parking in someone else’s spot. Instead, I snapped a picture of the license plate, and left a note under one of the wipers:

B45-T4RD: You are in a private parking space that I pay for. It has been several hours. Your license plate has been recorded.

Obviously, the license plate number has been altered to protect the wicked. I was seriously considering having the car towed, as it was there for at least 5 hours, but I hadn’t seen this particular car in my spot before so I decided not to be a total jerk. However, the open, free, extremely large public lot is only a few feet away from the gated private lot, so I have no compassion for the intruder. In fact, I am quite sure that my words cut the squatter to the bone, and left her a sobbing, gibbering mess (stealing is bad).

    So did it work?

They were gone later that night, and the note was gone as well. Only time will tell if the deterrent was permanent.

Are you going to do this with every new person that parks in your spot?

If it gets chronic, I’ll probably send an email to the building manager, and after that I’ll add the tow truck company as a contact on my cell phone.

You should steal their car. I mean since the space is technically yours, if they park there, it must mean they are giving you their car.

I had a similar problem once but instead of a note, I left about thirty big fat juicy live snails, that I foraged from around the neighborhood, all over the car. Never saw it again.
