Under Sound, Game, Video Controllers, the devices are all working but look odd:

Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
Video Codecs

There is one unrecognized item with a yellow exclamation mark. It's a "PCI Device" although I don't actually have any cards in PCI slots.

Le sigh, have used various drivers, checked that the onboard sound was enabled ("auto" or "disable" the only options), not working.

The slipstream disc was necessary because I didn't have a floppy disc drive. It also ended up saving me the time needed to install SP2, which was very nice!

Of course not everything is peaches and cream, as the onboard audio has not been detected...

I wonder if the slipstream disc was even necessary then; it might have worked the very first time without any extra hassle. I didn't need to do anything special when I put together my Shuttle; maybe it just depends on the motherboard brand. Anyhoo, I see this as the FNBA gods extracting their payment from you in exchange for your round 1 victory :)
