Can You Hear Me Now?
Well, Windows XP is installed, and many of my old programs are installed. Everything seems a lot faster, even my internet (lol wut?) connection. The one thing I am still having problems with is the onboard Realtek ALC861VD 6-Channel HD Audio sound card. I checked my BIOS and the onboard sound is set to "Auto" and I have installed all the drivers from the Biostar page. However, no matter what I do, all the sound options are all grayed out when I try to change the sound through the Control Panel.
I wonder if it would be worthwhile to get a cheap PCI sound card, as I have seen a number of problems with the Realtek sound drivers. Still, it would be nice to get the onboard sound to work.

If you care for the quality of sound, have a nice sound setup, or have sensitive hearing then yea I say go with a cheap-o sound card. 9 times out of 10 it will be equal to if not better to the onboard sound of your mobo.
And yea, funny stuff about the power connector not being plugged in for the SATA drive. I think any of us would have suggested that first but assumed you checked. LOL, oh well. Good to hear at least 90% of your system is setup!

realtek is kinda crappy. I have them here in the lab too. you know what you can try, delete all the sound stuff from device manager, including the unrecognized pci device, and then restart and see if hardware wizard comes up, and try to reinstall the drivers that way. Maybe it just needs resetting.

Haha, came into work and the network drives have totally crashed (we have to do some wonkiness with backed up files now). When I came in my computer was in a white text on black background mode with the words “No Operating System Found” on the screen.
Well, it’s just the work computer so whatever. Still, this trend of electronic destruction following in my wake is rather disturbing.

You’re like my brother now who used to cause havoc by standing by computers. One time in high school, he touched the glass on a monitor and poof, the monitor flickered and failed to work.
