Last night’s karate class was devoted to more techniques to counter knife attacks. We went over a different sequence of attacks and counters, and again the general idea was that the longer the encounter continues, the worse it gets for the defender. The first set of moves was a simple left-hand inward parry followed immediately by a downward right-hand chop to the middle of the forearm. This is a very quick motion, and is not that easy to pull off if the attacker is feinting or jabbing quickly.
I guess I need to L2Stab as when I went to go stab the instructor, he hit me with the chop so fast and so hard that the knife (obviously not a real knife, but still heavy and made of metal) came out of my hand and flew back. The knife spun back so hard that it basically stabbed me in the middle of my chest and then it fell down the front of my uniform so that I couldn’t immediately retrieve it for a counterattack. Wow, totally owned, as I not only got disarmed but just fake-injured myself pretty badly. I think even the Sensei was surprised at how effective the counter had been, as it is really just the opener in a series of contingency counters…
