I was thinking about the online quiz I posted yesterday and also about some articles I’d seen about “How Safe Is Your Password” and I got to thinking. What if you were to make a quiz that rated people’s account names and passwords? Wouldn’t this just be a scam waiting to happen? I could just imagine putting in one set, getting a response like “67% Safe. My jello cup could crack your account. Maybe you should try again for a better score!” and then trying again. The scammer could amass quite a store of usernames and passwords. I’m not trying to be cynical, but I know I personally would be tempted to actually put in information and find out how safe my password is. Just like I am tempted to click on those ads that taunt you about being able to click a monkey with cymbals…
Of course there are probably much easier and sneakier ways to grab whole databases of information without resorting to these online quizes.
