I’m Happy to See You Too

Oh man, this thread about the uTorrent-BitTorrent merger is hilarious. I love uTorrent for being a slick, lightweight program for downloading torrents. However, check out the animosity in this thread!

This is Bram Cohen, the creator of the BitTorrent protocol, and Ludvig (Ludde) Strigeus, the writer of µTorrent.

Together, we are pleased to announce that BitTorrent, Inc. and µTorrent AB have decided to join forces.

The existent µTorrent and BitTorrent communities are immensely valuable to us, which is why we are announcing this here first to make sure you’re all the first to know about the news. The plan is to continue to foster the health and growth of the community that has been critical to the success of µTorrent. Thank you in advance for your support.

Pretty standard stuff, right? Well the patrons of the uTorrent board did not seem pleased… The very first post is “this sucks” followed by “u said it”. It quickly degenerates into “I really hope you don’t F*** up uTorrent now” and “Wow this is possibly the worse [sic] news I have read in weeks.” So I’m guessing people who like uTorrent don’t exactly like Bram.

Just Wondering

Velius, is it worth getting another gig of RAM (I don’t even remember what my motherboard takes) and possibly an upgrade GFX card (ugh, AGP we hardly knew ye), or should I just wait to get a new computer? The RAM seems like it would be a cheap upgrade.

I was going to look up what the specs of my hardware are, but I guess I never got an email with the specs, since it was all handled on the fly, if you will. Should be almost the same as Catnip’s previous configuration, though.

Like Brownian Motion

I read an interesting article about a study that analyzes why we are so bad at predicting the tastes of a loved one.

In fact, we frequently have the most trouble understanding the tastes of those we know a lot about. Not only do we feel overconfident that we’ll pick something they like, but our tendency to assume that we are extremely similar to the ones we love also motivates us to ignore cues that don’t support preconceived notions.

Bunky and I totally went through that phase already. Nowadays, I don’t really want to be surprised. I will just tell her exactly what it is I want. I’m really practical, so things I ask for run the gamut of a watch, wallet, tie, etc. Bunky, however, is really hard to shop for, and even when she tells me what she wants, she ends up not really liking it that much later. I’m gonna just buy her stuff she can use, because jewelry or clothing never work out, and it’s kinda annoying when she doesn’t wear the gift even once. However, whenever I try to buy her gifts on non-holiday occasions, I generally flub it up because I think, “Wow, it’d be really cool if someone bought that for me!” Maybe I should just buy her some cookies for Christmas.

And Some 2.0.1 Patch Notes

Most of the changes look pretty good, although most seem to be the usual minor tweaks to speed and damage. Read the list here. Read my thoughts about parts of the list:

TBC Trees

Since you only get 51 points to spend prior to the expansion, here’s what I envision for my characters, along with notes on the reasoning. I’m probably going to be confused about my action bars for a while. Read about the patch changes here.
