Shopping Advice Needed
Ok I need help. Well, not me per se, but Bunky does and so by extension I do. See, I am tired of getting kicked off of my own computer in the middle of instance runs so that she can access her law firm’s lameass remote desktop software. The laptop she got (thanks to Kungfucius’ awesome discount tips) is a wee bit slow and she would much rather work on a desktop computer. However, she wants to do this on the cheap.
Projected Uses of Computer:
- Browsing the web while refreshing online stores every few seconds to see if the selection has changed
- Microsoft Office stuff; mostly Excel, Outlook, and Word
- Downloading/uploading millions of digital pictures of Sydney
- Sims2
Not exactly cutting edge requirements. I have the feeling that even a Dell computer would satisfy her needs. The main thing she wants are 1) low price, and 2) reasonably small size. So no large, ugly, plastic towers. She also wants a flat screen monitor, but just about any 19″ would do just fine (she is not picky about contrast ratio and refresh times the way I am). Finally, a nice wireless card will probably be a necessity, but I have no experience with that. So if you have any ideas about where to get a computer for cheap or get one with some PHAT discounts (*cough* Kungfucius *cough*), please let me know!!!

If you’re looking to camp out on black Friday, there are plenty of good deals on desktops on black Friday in various stores. Check out http://bfads.net/ and I’m sure you’ll find a store nearby that will have something that will take care of all your requirements. I d/led most of the ads that were taken down (like the best buy ad), so if you need one of those, send me a message or an email.

What is the price range you are looking at?

Well Dell will give like 2GHz/1Gig and a 19″ analog LCD for $650, so the price would have to be comparable. Not exactly spending the big bucks here.

Sorry I don’t have any ideas. You could always try Juan, the guy in a sketchy storefront in the Fashion District who sold me a new, “gently used” motherboard last year. But I wouldn’t recommend it.

If you’re willing to build the computer yourself, your best bet is to buy all your parts from either newegg.com or zipzoomfly.com. They have the best prices around, quality CS, and free/cheap shipping.
BTW for the first requirement, all she needs is the newer FF. As you probably already know, it has a auto-reload feature that’ll probably be what Bunky is looking for
