Draft Results
Yesterday night was the fantasy NBA draft and I somehow ended up with the first pick. So naturally I snapped up Lebron James. I did like the back-to-back picks on every wrap-around, but it was a looooong wait in between picks. Overall, I’m not sure i’m happy with my picks, and I have too much team overlap at the moment. The overall draft results can be found at the bottom of the first page of this thread.
- (1) L. James: No brainer. Hopefully he will get SG-SF eligibility, but it doesn’t really matter. If Hughes can stay healthy and put a decent season together, LBJ will probably be able to cut down on turnovers and up his FG% too.
- (24) J. O’Neal: I don’t feel that great about this pick, but I knew from my position that big men would be a problem for my team this season. I’m counting on Jermaine to stay healthy and also get center eligibility, otherwise this could be a long season of shuffling scrubs in and out of that center position. If Jermaine stays healthy and can do what he’s done in the past, this pick will be a steal. Still, I don’t like to make risky picks in the early rounds.
- (25) J. Richardson: I felt he was the best player at this position. Jason Kidd and Kirk Hinrich were available, but I felt it was too early to take either one. Richardson does some nice things, and if Baron can stay healthy, I think JRich could be better this season. I really wanted Chauncy Billups at this slot, but he got picked at 22.
- (48) S. Marbury: Had to take a PG eventually, and I think Marbury will be much better than he was last season, even if Francis cuts into his minutes. I feel ok about this pick, as Marbury was the best point guard left on the board, and I have to represent for the NY Knicks.
- (49) R. Jefferson: I had a chance at Mehmet Okur but wasn’t totally sure if I wanted Okur. I probably should have taken Okur for a center, but I’m counting on Jermaine to power up to PF-C. Richard Jefferson is typically a boring/safe pick, and none of the swingmen were very enticing in this round.
- (72) J. Nelson: I had Jameer at the end of last season, and he was fantastic. I think this was a pretty good pick so late in the draft, and I needed a backup PG.
- (73) L. Hughes: This might have been a mistake. I think Larry has a lot of potential to return to form, but I hate to overlap teams. Looking over the other picks, really only Dwight Gooden stands out, and he also plays for Cleveland. Shaq was still available at this point, haha.
- (96) Z. Pachulia: Backup center scrub. He had a few good weeks last season, but I’m sure something better will come along. The pickings were extremely slim at this point.
- (97) D. Milicic: Darko horse of the draft. I like to take a flyer on rookies, but I hadn’t done enough research this summer to know which would be a good risk. Darko also plays for Orlando, but since he’s so far down on my depth chart (and Jameer is my backup PG), it’s not as big a deal as Hughes-James.
So the big question marks for me are Jermaine O’Neal (whose health my season basically hinges on) and Larry Hughes. I hate drafting players with known health concerns, but sometimes you have to take the risk. No one has yet put up preview thoughts about the draft picks, but I don’t think anyone is going to be afraid of my team. Ender’s Prism Rangers did a lot of repping for hometown Phoenix, but I’m not sure about some of his picks. At the very least I suppose he should have a TON of assists. Kungfucius’ The Ren Team actually looks really strong, and will probably have absolutely amazing FG%. He did very well for being smack dab in the middle.

Jameer Nelson was definitely sweet when he got playing time, but during the course of last season the coach started splitting PG time between him and two other scrubs. Supposedly he’s going to be the main point man this season, so he could be a huge sleeper pick.
