I accepted the job offer yesterday and have to report for some testing and screening now. Although I don’t work with any kids, the hospital is heavily involved with pediatric research and so I have to prove that I don’t have tuberculosis and that I don’t molest children. I also have to refrain from drugs for long enough to take a drug test.
Anyway, to reward myself I finally took the plunge and purchased an LCD monitor. With advice from Velius and Kungfucius, I finally decided on the Samsung 920-N. My main requirement was that it had to have at least a 700:1 contrast ratio for better color production, since every so often I actually still do artwork. Velius assured me that a 8ms response time was plenty fast, and so I didn’t shell out more cash for a monitor with a 2ms response. I’m excited about the monitor, and Newegg had excellent pricing. Even though the shipping was free, it’s slated to arrive tomorrow, which is rather impressive. It should be great having way more desk space after I put away this clunker of an CRT. The CRT has served me well, but because it supports such a low refresh rate, it kinda flickers and causes eyestrain. I was lucky enough to catch the Samsung on a one-day sale, and saved a little extra off Newegg’s already great prices, so I’m feeling pretty good about the decision.
