The Grass Is Always Greener

Yesterday, I was riding the bus home from work, and one fellow came on and began to harass a young doctor. The weirdo looked like he was on something, and told the young doctor to “do it because you love it, not because of the money.” Sound advice, especially after he announced to everyone that “I’ve been part of a lot of petri dishes. See, I’m a cyborg (do you know what a cyborg is?), and they’re gonna clone me. They’re gonna send us to fight the enemies… of the righteous people!”

Whoa, even cyborgs have to ride the bus?!

Even sadder, he then told the lady next to him that “my gold-digging wife stole all my jewelry and my CDs.” Damn, being a cyborg is not all it’s cracked up to be!

6 Blade RAZR

Woo, my new phone finally arrived today, a silver RAZR V3m. I’d been using the same phone since I was an undergrad, and the monochrome display was starting to go. This one is almost half the thickness, and has so many new features!

It was a pain reprogramming all the phone book contacts in, though.

Not A Good Week for the Condo

Cable problems abound from shoddy wiring, bomb threat in the grocery store below (on Saturday), and now there is poop in the lobby…

More Great EA Coding

After switching to my new monitor, I had the urge to see what Battlefield 2 would look like on the snazzy new screen. I figured some lame singleplayer action could help ease the boredom brought on by the malfunctioning cable broadband. Unfortunately, when I tried to start BF2, it showed the splash screen, flickered to black briefly… and then promptly crashed. No explanation, just crash.

Of course rather than try to contact EA for help, I had to dig around on Google for answers. Fortunately EA’s problems affect many users, and I found this useful thread in AnandTech. It has to do with your original video card settings in the game. If even a little bit is off, apparently BF2 cannot load. Awesome.

In my case, due to the way CRTs and LCDs work, I had to lower the refresh rate from 75 to 70.
