I Will Not Be Denied!

So for the longest time, I have been trying to get Bunky to go to some nice restaurants with me. However, the only time I can get her to go is on my birthday. Last year we checked out Le Yaca, and I believe I had some wonderful duck and some so-so vanilla creme brule. That one didn’t go so well, however, since Bunky ordered some gross onion soup and felt like she had to finish it, which basically ruined her dinner for her. She still refers to the restaurant as “Le Yuck-a” but I didn’t think it was that bad.

Anyways, this year’s potential target is The Trellis. It’s only “casual” as opposed to “elegant”, but its Death By Chocolate dessert seems to be acclaimed. In anticipation, I looked up some user ratings on Fodor’s site regarding Williamsburg dining. Some of these reviews have me a bit worried, however, considering that Le Yaca didn’t go well and had nice reviews.

Just to clarify about Le Yaca, I thought the atmosphere and everything was so nice; it was just a bit expensive and that soup was evil (although one reviewer actually recommends it!). For those of you who have been to Williamsburg, some of these reviews are funny. For instance, the review of Peking is great. While I agree that Peking is by far about 100x better than any other Chinese place in Williamsburg, that is because we are in Williamsburg, VA. If you put Peking in any kind of diverse area, the rating would probably drop from a 4.5/5.0 to 2.9/5.0, as it is really just an average buffet that never changes its menu. Another high ranker was The Seafare, which I went to while Bunky was doing her summer law thing. It sucks, don’t eat there; the food is no good, and it’s not at all classy. It’s like crappy gilding pretending to be classy, so that the food can be way overpriced.

However, no matter what happens, I will not allow something like this to happen again on my watch. No more Sonic!!!

Trap?!?!

I came back from a training session today to find a green Starburst on my chair. Just one Starburst. Of course my first inclination was to eat it T__T. But then I got to thinking, wait a second, why is this Starburst on my chair? Who left it? Is it even safe? So now the rectangular prism of mystery is sitting on my desk until further investigation.

So if you found a Starburst just randomly left on your chair, would you go ahead and eat it?

I already checked and there was no C4 attached to the Starburst ^__^d.

Felicia Yagyuu v0.3

Daaaaang, it’s been a while since I did something intricate enough to warrant a WIP post. It’s been kinda rough getting back into the drawing groove. After a week of being super busy, I then went out of town, and then got sick. I’ve gotten back into the blogging routine, but drawing and gymming seem to have taken a bit longer.

Anyway, excuses aside, I finally got started on Chris’ piece. As per this note, I did promise a gift art piece to whoever left the 2000th comment on Sea Slugs!, and here is the beginnings of Felicia. I have to fix the right shoulder a bit (might just look strange because of the shirt Felicia wears), and figure out her funky costume, but I think a lot of it is in place. Chris asked for “Ninja mode”, but the mask wasn’t coming out quite right, so I decided to draw the whole face. I took some shortcuts with the hair, too.

My plan is to smooth out the lineart and then give it a light coloring, similar to what I did with Lunamaria. I might not make the colors as smooth, and try for a marker look (perhaps…). Still, I’m pretty sure I will mostly just use color for the shadows and leave white for the highlights and lighter areas. I’ve been getting lazy just doing sketches, mostly because the pressure is so much lower and it takes a lot of work to smooth out the lineart. So once in a while, I try for a more finished product, but dang it takes way longer! I’m pretty happy with how it’s turning out so far, but there’s still plenty of time for a slip-up ^__~.

Photoshock Skillz

Ah the joys of Photoshop. Check out these truly inspired chops that integrate corporate symbols where you’d least expect them. Obviously, some are better than others.

More Fun With Statistics

Velius recently posted a note about the top BattleField2 player, and it made me wonder how our stats matched up. BF2S.com is an awesome site, and I love how you can find out neat information by poring over obscure statistics.

  • Catnipped: Probably the only one of us who enjoys playing Engineer, Catnip blows lots of stuff up, but also fixes things, too. She’d probably be a lot happier if friendly retards would stop driving over her AT mines!!!
  • Cucumbernator: Our highest ranking member, Velius has recently become enamoured with C4. I can’t even begin to describe what this has done for my Support stats. Owns an impressive 14-victim kill streak as well!
  • Datasix: The most efficient one in our squad, Datasix’s strong medic play turns cries of “Noooooes!” into “Whatthe… YESS!!!” A fine commander, Datasix also has the least teamkills in our squad.
  • GrapesOfWrath: I have the worst twitch reactions ever, but after unlocking the PKM machine gun, I’ve actually been able to contribute to the squad. I used to play Anti-Tank a lot, but I’ve switched almost exclusively to Support, now that my gun can blow up jeeps and choppers. However, I am most proud of the fact that I am the only one in our squad with a shock paddle kill. Mwahahahaha!
  • KiraTomato: Thank God for patch 1.03, as Ender’s teamwork score now regularly rises above zero. In spite of all the TK’ing he does, Ender is the only one with a winning record! He had mentioned to me that he really liked the Assault kit, but I never realized how good he was with it: OMG, 172 kills with the grenade launcher attachment, for a gaudy 63.31% accuracy rating?! This brings back bad memories of Ender firing off random grenades into the air with the OICW in Ghost Recon…

I wanted to look up Kungfucius’ (”Elemonator”) stats too, but since he has only played the demo version, he does not have enough global points to kick out a report. Plus they don’t seem to have a stat for “Kills While Chatting On the Phone”.

Scaredy Cat

We finally got a new PetsMart nearby, and so this weekend Bunky and I went to the store’s grand opening. It was pretty amazing, and they even had clowns (wow!) and giveaways. Naturally, I figured Sydney would want to come along, so we harnessed him up and carried him in in his soft carrier.

It was a little disappointing at first, since the door prize was this cheapass paper nametag that no one would ever put on their pet, but later we discovered there were more giveaway bins scattered throughout the store. We picked up a free fuzzy mouse toy with a bell tail, but most of the cooler giveaways were dog-centric (e.g. frisbees). They did have these great hair-mice with little noise-beads or something inside that Sydney adores (he especially favors hairy toys with tails and noise things inside). While Bunky shopped for more cat toys to clutter up the cottage, I took Sydney around to all the various areas to check out the animals. He had a really good time in the safety of his carrier, and was especially intrigued by the kittens up for adoption. It was really cute seeing all of them trying to sniff each other through the glass. Sydney also liked the fish and gerbils, but showed little interest in the lovebirds and canaries. I’m just glad we no longer have to drive to Newport News just to get litter, toys, or cat food.

Afterwards, I wanted to take Sydney to the nearby park, but he totally spazzed out. It was almost impossible to get him out of his carrier (he was hanging on for dear life), and when he did get out, he was shivering and slinking about like a scaredy cat. I’m not sure what frightened him so much, since when I took him back to walk around in our front yard, he was happy and playful while munching on grass.
