Let’s Get It Started!

The Fantasy NBA live draft just concluded, and I’m fairly pleased with my team. Live drafts are much better than autopicks, because you don’t end up with 4 power forwards and no shooting guards like I did last year. This year I picked 5th, which was pretty pivotal. My team is as follows:

A. Kirilenko (Uta - PF): My first pick. He’s awesome in that he contributes in almost every category. Some may say he was a little high, but he plays two positions and he’ll actually have help this year. I had him last year, and even when he doesn’t score he finds a way to contribute.

M. Bibby (Sac - PG): Woo, got the point guard I wanted. PG pickings were a bit slim this year.

B. Miller (Sac - FC): I had Brad last year, and while I didn’t want to double up on Sacramento picks, he is rock solid. Without Vlade to steal his minutes, I think he’ll be even better. It’s important to get a good center too, because the late round ones are total bums.

R. Jefferson (NJ - SF): I wasn’t sure about this one since Michael Finley was still on the board, but he’s going to be NJ’s go-to guy this year and he shoots a very high percentage. Plus Finley’s getting a little long in the tooth.

K. Martin (Den - PF): Had K-Mart last year and he was a beast. I don’t know if he’ll be as good this year, but he’s a pretty safe pick.

K. Kittles (LAC - SG): I may have made a mistake with this one, as I didn’t realize that he was injured and recovering from knee surgery. The plan was that he was going to be the man in Clipper-ville and shoot some 3’s for me, but now I’m not so sure…

J. Williams (Mem - PG): He doesn’t play a ton of minutes under the platoon system, but he’s safe with the ball and I needed a backup point guard.

J. Magloire (NO - C): Don’t know too much about him, but he was an all-star last year, and I needed a backup center. Mark Blount was on the board and I had him last year, but I figured that Magloire must be better. Hopefully he won’t prove me wrong.

M. Harpring (Uta - SF): I think he was supposed to be really good, but he was injured last year. Didn’t want to double on Utah picks either, but I decided to take a gamble on this sleeper.

J. Jackson (Hou - GF): Good ole J.J. served me well last year, and for a last round pick I think he’s a serviceable wingman. He shoots the 3 pretty well, which will be integral with Yao and T. Mac getting all the attention.

So I picked a lot of the old, and some of the new, but I’m pretty happy with the picks. I believe the season starts November 2nd, and I’m pretty pumped!

Fall Dinner: Good, Bad, and Ugly

Good: Sparkling apple cider. Even cheap store brand stuff was yummy and refreshing.

Bad: Turkey cutlets. No wonder no one ever buys/sells this stuff.

Ugly: Bunky trying to feed turkey cutlet to Sydney. Sydney felt it was too rubbery and gross for consumption and ended up biting/batting the piece around like a toy, but not eating it =(.

That’s the Spirit

I was in a very fall festival kinda mood today at the supermarket, and picked up some turkey deli meat, turkey sausages, and thick turkey cutlets. I don’t know how to cook the cutlets, but just the idea of thick slabs of pork-chop-like turkey cutlets tickled my fancy. I’m not sure if I want to bake it like normal turkey and just put some gravy on, or if I should experiment with more exotic treatments. I also grabbed a bottle of sparkling apple cider. Last time I got some store brand apple cider, it tasted just like regular apple juice. That’s when Bunky pointed out the ingredients on the label: water, apple juice concentrate. I guess that explains a lot.

Tonight I had a lovely tilapia with curry paste, and asparagus. I love tilapia.
