Ants in My Pants

Grrr, I just found a ton of ants in an open box of sugar cubes near the top of my pantry. I’d only used a few cubes, but I still had to toss the whole box out. Next time I’ll know to put the box in a sealed bag to keep those accursed scavengers out!

Speaking of bugs, I hear that Spiderman 2 is hot like fiyah, and I hope to see it over the long weekend.

Shriveled Fruits

Lately I’ve been trying to cut down on the amount of snacking I do. This certainly hasn’t been easy, and there are some times that the pantry is devoid of snacks and I absolutely crave them. So when I saw some dried fruit at the supermarket, I decided that maybe this could be a pleasant compromise. I’m pretty impulsive in grocery stores, so I picked up dried cranberries, dried apricots, dried apples, and mixed dried fruits from Sun-Maid. I already knew I liked apricots, and the cranberries were outstanding, but the apples weren’t really that great (little minced bits of apple… too small). I plan on getting more dried cranberries next time I got to the store. In the back of my mind, however, I wonder if I am fooling myself into thinking this is healthy snacking. I’m pretty sure it’s better than a big bag of greasy chips, but I noticed that the fruits have preservatives in them. And I don’t know how much nutritional value is retained when the fruit is dried (I suspect it’s still reasonable). The cranberries really are good though. I bet they would rock my socks with cereal.

Sorta Done

Over the weekend, it seems that that neighbor lady FINALLY got someone to come over and remove the tree that fell in the middle of our driveway. As you might suspect, having a downed tree in the middle of the driveway and front yard is pretty annoying. The tree had begun tipping all the way back since the aftermath of Hurricane Isabel, and a month or two ago had finally fallen down (taking several beautiful branches of flowering trees down in the process). The large tree was clearly from her yard, and while she knew about it, she did nothing. I’m not sure if in the end our landlord was able to pressure her into removing it, or if he just had it removed himself and sent her the bill. I guess it’s not really my concern. I’m just glad to be able to park within walking distance of where I live. The person who took care of the tree was not particularly considerate, however. He showed up at 8:00 AM on Saturday with his chainsaw and got to work (waking me up). He didn’t take the tree away either. He left the stump (half out of the ground, but laying on the neighbor’s property), cutting it so that it was just barely inside the property line, and he just threw the large pieces of tree back over onto the neighbor’s property. It’s better than nothing, but it’s not really that great a job.

In other news of things that should have been finished a long time ago, but still aren’t quite done, I’ve put some shading on my Azumanga fanart. Seriously, it’s almost done! I have shading for three more characters to do, highlights for everyone, three quick eyes, and a background. Then it will be finished! I’m very eager to slowly begin working on another piece =).

Standing

Today’s WTF award goes to the P-Mate.

Back in college, I had a class that dealt with aspects of entrepreneurship. It was fairly fluffy, with a teacher that was known for friendly grading, so my friends and I all decided to take it. The class required a presentation for venture capital on a new product that we would design. After much agonizing, we decided on a swiveling/attachable visor that was made of polarized translucent plastic. Naturally there was a cheap version (Supervisor) and the deluxe edition (Solariix). We thought it was a pretty decent idea, but the professor was falling asleep during our presentation. Looking back, I bet if we had unveiled the P-Mate, I think he would have been on the edge of his seat listening!

Ah, hindsight is 20/20 (sometimes).
