Living Under a Rock

When did they change the back of nickels??? I just noticed the change this week. First quarters, now nickels?

Also, now people have decided that you can lose weight by playing Dance Dance Revolution. There’s even a testimonial site devoted to it. It sounds like a scam like most places, but I’ve seen some hardcore players go at it in arcades, and they’re always sweating up a storm afterwards.

Doggysitting

Sunday, I finally finished up with doggysitting my landlord’s two dogs. Both of them were very well behaved, and so it wasn’t too much trouble. The younger one liked me right away, but his mom was a bit more aloof at first. Naturally, this changed once I brought over some doggie treats (mmm, nothing like some soy-based bacon muffins!), and after that every time they saw me they went nuts jumping and wagging their tails. They were by far the easiest dogs to take care of, since all they wanted to do was sniff stuff and sleep. It was a considerable improvement over the greyhound I watched once. That dog had poor bladder control, wanderlust, and a penchant for digging holes everywhere.

Recently, I’ve been working a lot on my anime blog. After about a month of hardship and transience, Sea Slugs! has finally found a home, and is up and running. I’m running Wordpress 1.2 and thus far it has been good to me. I only wish it had spellcheck.

I even took some time to FINALLY finish the Azumanga Daioh lineart that I started 200 years ago. I’m hoping that coloring will take much less time, because I am getting to the point where I just want to finish this pic so I can move on. It will probably be a while before I try another picture with this many people (and hands! HANDS!!!!), but I think I was feeling ambitious at the time…

The Big Ticket

Caught the final game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Sacramento Kings last night (while doggysitting), and what a performance Kevin Garnett turned in! I can’t even understand the flak he took for not going nuts on Anthony Peeler in game 6. Getting tossed out for fighting Peeler would have been so retarded it boggles the mind. I think he did a pretty good job of just recovering from a direct elbow thrown to the face. But after watching him go for 32 points (on better than 50% shooting!), 21 rebounds, 4 steals, and 5 blocks while coming up huge in the 4th quarter, it’s clear he made the right decision. KG is simply a monster. Also, every time I see Sam Cassell, I can’t help thinking about what a funny head he has =).

As for Nets and Pistons, I don’t like the Nets’ chances this year. I’ve watched most of this series, and NJ has looked pretty bad in the competitive games. Jason Kidd looks like he’s running on fumes, and even in that triple OT win, I was dying watching them miss free throws and turn the ball over time and time again. I just get the feeling that unless Detroit does something wrong and lets the Nets run and gun all over the place, it’s going to be Indiana vs. Detroit in the Eastern Conference Finals. I think the Lakers vs. Timberwolves series will be pretty good, but my final prediction is Lakers vs. Pistons, with LA easily taking the championship.

The collies I was taking care of didn’t seem too interested in the basketball game. One just wanted to snuggle at my feet, and the other fell asleep on the floor and had to be poked to wake up. I know you’re dogs, but c’mon this is game 7!!!!

Empty Nester

Bunky left on Saturday, and it’s been pretty quiet around the cottage. The last day was a bang, as we checked out Water Country USA, which is only a 5-10 minute drive away. Plus, we have season passes so there was no pressure to see it all in one day. We spent a few hours checking out the park and riding in the lazy river and the wave pool. Bunky made a valiant attempt at tanning. Then it was off to the airport where they promptly made sure to lose her luggage. Thankfully it eventually got to the correct destination, albeit a few days later.

So I was sitting in front of the computer, as I am wont to do, and I realized that this summer will be the first time I’ve lived completely alone. I’ve always had housemates, roomates, or family living with me, and now I have the cottage all to myself. There are some cool parts, in that now there is a lot more space in the cottage, and everything is much cleaner now that Bunky can’t pull her “I am a busy law student and can’t clean” routine whenever she makes a mess in the morning deciding on an outfit. Also, I have a lot more free time to do stuff like go to the gym or go food shopping. But after a while (like one day) it gets really boring, and maybe just a little lonely. I think the problem is it’s too quiet now. It’s almost like I’m an empty nester now! Fortunately, Bunky should be back by August after she’s done doing whatever it is that federal judge clerks do during the summer, and we can go check out the rest of the rides at Water Country USA. Then I can go back to complaining about her being messy and she can go back to pretending she is too busy to take out the garbage. It’s her ONE chore, and she still doesn’t do it!

To fill the void, I’m taking care of the landlord’s dogs while he takes his family to Disneyworld for 3/4 of a week. They are two pretty old but cute collies, and I think it should be fun.
