Car Nightmare Ends

I picked up the car, yesterday. Final total: $601. I don’t even want to think about the retarded price changes anymore. They did an oil change and state inspection for me as well. That’d be super and all, except I had done the inspection 1 month ago, and gotten the oil changed 2 weeks ago… They charged me for it, of course. Whatever. Anyway, the car runs a lot different than it ever has before. I think it’s a good different, but I’m pretty antsy whenever I hear a new sound come from the engine. From the sound of things, it took them about 2-3 days of cleaning all the pipes to get the carbon and gook out. I don’t think they found the mouse.

One of the things that I really hate is when you get in the car on a really hot or cold day and the steering wheel either freezes or burns your hands. Well, I finally decided to do something about it: I got a steering wheel cover. It was really hard to, um, install. I wanted a soft squishy foam one (that would be made of a material with low heat conductivity), while Bunky wanted a plain black rubber one (to make the wheel easy to grip). So we compromised and got a cover that is 1/2 rubber nubby grips, and 1/2 leopard print faux fur. If you divided the steering wheel into 6 slices, every other slice would be faux leopard fur. I don’t care if it looks kinda tacky, I like it =). Raaaaawr!

Emotional Rollarcoaster: Part 2

I should have known better than to believe them… Yesterday (after work), I called again to reconfirm, and this time I was told (by the same person) that there were no rental cars and that he had never quoted me a price. He even denied ever talking to me! WTF?! This morning they gave me a call to let me know that the car was finally fixed, and that the final price was $650. They have yet to tell me what exactly I was charged for; I guess I’ll find out when I pick it up today. I suppose you could say the situation didn’t turn out as bad as it could have, but it’s still been a tumultuous week. This car better not break down again.

The pain is dulled somewhat by the fact that I am so looking forward to having food again. Mmm, fresh food *drool*.

Emotional Rollercoaster

So now Chevy is telling me the total of repair and labor will only cost $130 (I guess that warranty was worth getting after all…), and they’ll even spring for a rental car for me (since repairs might take a day extra). Dare I believe them?!

Chevy, quit playing games with my heart!

Like a Cry for Help

I was sitting at my desk and lamenting my lack of food (no breakfast or lunch for today, only boxed pasta for dinner), when this email hit me:

We abound with leftovers from Florimonte’s catering… so there’s some free food in the green room refrigerator:

-Chicken Cordon Bleu
-Salmon
-Caesar Salad
-Some asparagus and pasta salad, too
-Italian desserts

First come, first served! Take some or take it all, for tomorrow it will be one day older.

It was like the answer to a silent prayer. The catering was excellent, plentiful, and still warm. The aforementioned desserts were delicate and delicious. I am hoping to scavenge more for dinner after the main lunch traffic passes by. My lack of food from lack of car has sent me back to the hunter-gatherer days. I’m thinking about setting some traps for the squirrels outside the cottage. Seriously, I no longer have any shame.

As I was enjoying my meal, I thought up this little ode to food:

Your sweet aromas ever draw me near,
I long to kiss your warmth and breathe you in.
For when we join together I feel whole,
How I adore your luscious foodiness!
Though Fate attempts to keep us both apart,
I promise that I will return to you.

These 6 lines of unrhymed iambic pentameter (aka Blank Verse) sprang forth between bites of Chicken Cordon Bleu.
