FunbariHotSprings

So, the NBA Fantasy Team draft went through finally, and here’s what my team (FunbariHotSprings) looks like at the moment. I don’t know how trades and such will work (I tried to pick up Nene Hilario as a free agent but the teams are locked right now), but I think my team is alright.

PG Kidd, Jason (PG-NJ)
SG Mason, Desmond (GF-Mil)
SF Kirilenko, Andrei (SF-Uta)
PF Martin, Kenyon (PF-NJ)
C Miller, Brad (C-Sac)
Util Marbury, Stephon (PG-Pho)
Util Van Horn, Keith (F-NY)
Bench Ginobili, Emanuel (SG-SA)
Bench Parker, Tony (PG-SA)
Bench Miller, Mike (GF-Mem)
Bench Randolph, Zachary (PF-Por)

Crazy playoff experience for this bunch. I got the San Antonio connection working here, and I was pretty happy about the pickup of Manu Ginobili, since I think his numbers will improve dramatically as his minutes go up. My wing positions are a little weak, and Kenyon Martin isn’t exactly Tim Duncan or Kevin Garnett, but I’m hoping my strong point guard strength will carry me through. That or Tony Parker will once again be trade bait (he’s definitely third string behind Kidd and Marbury). I would love to swap Parker for a good power forward (they fill up the stat lines) or small forward. I’ll have to see if I can or not. I think Miller and Randolph were decent pick-ups for just filling in occasionally. Randolph will probably be better than he was last year since his minutes will increase, and Miller is a pretty versatile and solid player (playing for a bad team, might I add). I think I’ll probably always have Kidd and Marbury in the PG and Utility positions (not that I know what the Utility position is…), and Kirilenko should put up good numbers as the star on a rather weak, but well coached Jazz team. I’m also hoping that Brad Miller and Kenyon Martin stay healthy, since my front line is somewhat thin. The Keith Van Horn utility position is most definitely up for competition. I will have to see if Manu can improve enough to take it, or if Parker will get it. Maybe I can get someone to take Parker for a good Forward-Center from the East, in case I have any injuries. Overall, I think I got a team with a lot of potential (most of them were decent last year and should get even more minutes this year). This week’s opponent is BasketBallShorts, with… “DogDonkey RoosterFace” (you know what I mean) next week. Ah, sound of bounce my way now.

Strength of a Thousand

They say that a picture is worth a thousand words. After today, I must say I agree. I was browsing through the picture library of the CWF Productions and Publications department for files to use in this year’s Virginia History Day publication. Interspersed between the pictures of houses, trees, and Colonial cosplayers I saw lambs being born, chickens being plucked, and rabbits being skinned. Each of these pictures was easily worth a thousand words describing the bright red and white strands coming out of the mother sheep, the bloody neck stump of the chicken, and the sight of a naked rabbit. Now when I say pictures, I don’t mean your run-of-the-mill digital photography. We’re talking professional, big-budget, 10 Mb sized, zero-compression, TIF format pictures here. I could make out individual muscle strands on the wascally wabbit. Needless to say, none of these pictures made it into the booklet….

In more exciting (or at least less gruesome) news, I got news that the car has been scheduled for pick-up! Huzzah! While I don’t mind riding the bike from work, it is very cold in the morning and it takes me way longer to get to work. Plus, I would like to be able to do laundry and shop for groceries on a regular basis. The thought of a full fridge is making me salivate. I can’t wait!

Yesterday was supposed to be the auto-draft for the NBA fantasy league I’m in, but the moderator forgot about the draft… So I guess it’s supposed to be tonight now. I’ve already downgraded Walker and Van Exel, lol.

I was getting excited reading about 401(k)’s today. I am wondering about percentages for aggressive and moderately aggressive funds (I don’t exactly have any money to lose…). It’s like an RPG. A RFRPG (Retirement Fund RPG). Investment save!

Blarghy Group!

Ugh, this group pic is still kinda wonky. It’s pretty difficult for me to get everyone to look like part of one big picture, and I’m not sure all the pieces fit together properly yet (especially Tomo and Yomi). I definitely have to clean up the interaction between everyone, but I figured I’d post my progress so far. I might have to fix Yomi’s expression, too. I think the autodraft for the basketball fantasy league I’m in starts tomorrow ^__^. Wooo, go FunbariHotSprings!

Bonsai!

I checked out the Farmer’s Market and the Colonial Williamsburg Garden & Nursery today. My plants from Ithaca didn’t adjust too well to Williamsburg, so I had to replace them with some indigenous greenery. However, since I wasn’t really shopping for garden plants, I didn’t find any Colonial houseplants. I did pick up a nice Boxwood Bonsai though, as well as some type of pale white succulent that resembles a Hen & Chick, but I think it is actually a Blue Echeveria. The bonzai is very nice and has a pretty rock and some moss on it for a pleasing look. Sadly, there were no bags available at the Farmer’s Market and I attempted to bike back while holding both plants in my left hand. The roads in Williamsburg are bumpy and the little succulent jumped out of my hand and fell =(. I rescued the plant, but the pot broke >__<. I'm not completely sure the succulent will live; it wasn't very pricey at least. The Farmers market was still fun, especially since I got there early before the tourists ransacked the place. Haha, my Colonial ID makes me feel like a real part of the historical area.

I definitely appreciate the weekends more now, since the work week takes so much out of me. Lately, during the week all I can manage to do is watch whatever anime I downloaded while I was asleep/working and then play some Final Fantasy Tactics. Not that I’m complaining, because money pulls my puppet strings and I’m perfectly comfortable admitting it. I’m happy I made it through my first week, and I still enjoy what I do. I even picked up some great layer mask blending, liquid warping, and color burning tips for Photoshop (it’s actually work related!). There are quite a few interesting easter eggs in Photoshop splash screens. I hear that Adobe is already coming out with Photoshop CS… What’s up with the rubber ducky obsession?

I’m heading home on Thursday for my birthday and I finally ordered an Amtrak ticket early enough to get a seat. The thought of another horrific 12+ hour ride on Greyhound (and dealing with rude drivers, cranky passengers, and broke down buses that leave you stranded for 4 hours) sickened me, and I finally took my credit card debt elsewhere. Take that Greyhound! I will ride your broken-down buses no more! Both places are at the same station, and it didn’t cost that much more (plus the trip will only take 7 hours) to take the train.
